Soccer Trainers - Defensive Tips

Teaching soccer defensive skills is not an easy task for soccer trainers because players like the offensive ideas and drills. You should let the players be aware of the importance of the defensive strategies in a soccer game.

The offensive skills are important to attack and finishing, but until and unless you have good defensive strategy, it is very unlikely that you will get the desired success in the game.

  • Moving Quickly - Short Distance

The coach must teach their players to move quickly within a short distance – to their left and right. To achieve it the players need to push off rapidly on the alternate foot. They must be ready at all times and they need to be quick enough to steal the ball, take the position and turn the tide in their favor.

  • Being Between The Ball And The Goal

When the ball is in the possession of the opponent team, you need to have an eye on the ball and the player with possession. It is very important to keep yourself between the ball and the goal as a strong "wall".

Always keep in mind that there are two tasks assigned to a defender:

1. To save the goal;
2. To steal the ball;
3. Or both simultaneously.

  • Tackling

Tackling techniques are an important component to acquire defensive skills.

Quick tips:

1. If you are making an attempt to tackle the ball somewhere near the midfield, you must make sure that you are having a backup from a fellow player.

2. Players must go for the ball and not for the player. Keep your eyes on the ball. Look for an opportunity to steal it, and as soon as you get it, you must be quick enough to turn the opportunity into the possession of the ball.

Soccer trainers have to teach the players many things and defensive soccer trick tips are just one important part of them.

Soccer Techniques For Defense

You cannot win a soccer game without using impressive soccer techniques for defense. Let me give you a brief insight into the soccer coaching defensive strategy.

1. Compact Formation Of The Team

The defensive soccer strategy works only if the coach is able to train the team the right way and help the the team retain a compact shape. This way, the player on the ball can be challenged quickly and eventually prevent him from playing the ball forward. It will at least delay him.

Another benefit of having a team with compact formation is that the challenging player will immediately get defensive support. Here, the role of the coach becomes important. The coach must teach the team how to cover a teammate challenging the player with the ball.

Marking an opponent in the area of the ball and occupy important space goal-side of the ball is also an important thing to teach in soccer. There are many other benefits of the team with a compact formation, such as the players will be available to track opponents making forward runs.

2. Reduce The Chances Of Conceding A Goal

You should focus on how to reduce the chances of conceding a goal further. For this, the coach must instruct the players defending in and around their own penalty area and be the first to the ball. They should move towards the ball clearing with height, distance and width. They must also know how to defend the area of the far post and how not to get caught in possession in the defending third of the field.

These are important soccer techniques to keep in mind.
