Coaching High School Soccer: Various Drill To Enhance The Shooting Skills Of The Players

When it comes to coaching high school soccer, “Quick Shot” is one of the most effective soccer drills to improve the shooting skills of your players.

As per this drill, you can begin with dividing the players into small teams of three.

  • Make sure that every team has one ball and two cones.
  • Place the cones in a way to create the goalpost for every team.
  • One player of every team will act as a goalie.
  • You have to have the other two players take their position on the opposite sides of the goals in a way that they both should face each other.
  • Now, each of these two players will attempt shooting the ball in an effort to score a goal. The goalie will try to save the goal.
  • Once saved, the soccer goalie will pass on the ball to the other player.
A thorough practice of this drill will be very effective for both the players and the goalie. Please note that while coaching high school soccer using this youth soccer coaching drill, you have to make sure that you are switching the goalie quite often at regular intervals.

Soccer Practice - Shooting Skills

Soccer practice is important for the players when it comes to improving their shooting skills. There are a variety of soccer tryouts, games and drills that can help improve and reinforce the shooting skills of your players. Here's an example...

  • Shooting After Winning The Ball

This is an easy and simple way to teach shooting skills, and you don't need any soccer training tapes:

STEP 1: The soccer coach has to let the players stand in two lines – one on his right side and the other on his left side.

STEP 2: Both these lines should be at least eighteen to twenty from the goal.

STEP 3: Start the drill... the coach will serve the ball to the players standing on his one side and one of the players have to take the initiative, get the ball and shoot the ball while attempting to score.

When talking soccer drills at the beginning, you don't need to have a goalkeeper, but as you realize that the shooting skills of the players have increased, you can go ahead and have a goalie. By doing this and add a goalkeeper, the drill will become a little tougher for the players because now they have to shoot the ball, attempting to score a goal saving it from the hands of the goalie.

This is a soccer practice drill focusing in improving shooting skills that you can easily implement.

Soccer Ball Skills - Shooting

  • How To Teach Accurate Shooting

When it comes to soccer ball skills, the team that knows how to shoot on target accurately... usually wins. Teaching the players to shoot the ball with accuracy is very important. One simple way to improve this technique is to give your players a margin of error between two cones.

STEP 1: Start with as much as four-meter distance between the cones.

STEP 2: You should slowly reduce this distance until it is zero and there is no cone.

This is a very effective way to enhance your players’ focus to the shooting of the ball.

  • How To Teach The Free-Kicks

One important thing your players must know is how to make long free kicks. In this soccer training session, you have to have the players of your team practicing the free kicks. Make sure that you instruct the players to keep their non-kicking foot alongside the ball and pointing in the direction you want the ball to go. Give soccer instructions to the players to slightly lean back and swing their kicking foot back and forth.

As a soccer trainer, make sure that you use the above soccer techniques extensively in your various training sessions. After a few sessions, you will certainly find improvement in your team’s game. These are some effective ways to enhance numerous soccer ball skills to the young players.
